Framing. Schon mal gehört? In anderen Zusammenhängen, sicherlich. Je nach dem wie eine Botschaft formuliert wird, beeinflusst sie den Empfänger unterschiedlich. Und ein „später Punkt gegen den Angstgegner“ ist dann eben die „Glas halbvoll“-Formulierung für das heutige Spiel. „Nur ein Punkt für den Vorletzten!“ wäre dann die „Glas halbleer“-Formulierung gewesen – und wir wollen jetzt mal herausarbeiten, wieso wir erstere Variante gewählt haben.

Die Aufstellung

In Tims Vorbericht zum Spiel und dem Artikel zur Torwartdiskussion waren die heutigen vier Wechsel allesamt schon abzusehen gewesen, aber der Vollständigkeit halber:

Svend Arvid Stanislaw Brodersen beginnt im Tor für Robin Himmelmann. 23 Jahre alt, mit vier Jahren beim FCSP angefangen, kurze Unterbrechung beim ETV und dann wieder für den FCSP aktiv. Wie formulierte es jemand so schön? Man möchte einfach, dass es für ihn funktioniert. Eine 4:1-Niederlage in Köln und eine 2:1-Niederlage in Kiel standen bisher in seiner 2.Liga-Vita.

Leart Paqarada, Finn Ole Becker, Igor Matanovic und Boris Tashchy starten außerdem im Vergleich zu Braunschweig für Daniel Buballa, Kevin Lankford, Simon Makienok und Maximilian Dittgen. Von der „Welpenattacke“ die Tim vorher erträumt hatte, fehlt also nur der später noch eingewechselte Lukas Daschner.

Die 1.Halbzeit

Es passt alles. Aggressivität, mutiger Spielaufbau nach vorne, Ideen, Spritzigkeit. Eine „Hundertprozentige“ für Philipp Ziereis per Kopf nach zwei Minuten.
Und dann schnappt sich Finn Ole Becker den Ball, lässt mit einem Antritt den ersten Gegenspieler aussteigen – und spielt einen Katastrophenfehlpass, verliert beim Zurücklaufen die Orientierung und Aue führt mit 1:0. Der erste Ball auf das Tor von Brodersen, unhaltbar flach ins Eck.
Fuuuuuck! (So ungefähr lesen zumindest unsere Lippenlesefähigkeiten das, was Beckers Mund Sekunden später in Großaufnahme formt.)

Ein Wirkungstreffer.
Und es kommt noch schlimmer, Ziereis greift sich an die Leiste und muss wenig später ausgewechselt werden. Ich (Maik) muss zu meiner Schande gestehen, dass ich heute aus logistischen Gründen (Grünkohlessen bei Mama) auf Sky angewiesen war – und bei Buballas Einwechslung zeigt sich der Reporter dann „gespannt, wie er jetzt auf dem Platz auf diese Ausbootung reagiert“.
Alter Schwede… Reporterbashing ist in etwa so schlimm wie Schiedsrichterbashing, aber jetzt mal ernsthaft! WAS! SOLL! DER! DENN! MACHEN?!?!?!
„Oh, meine Damen und Herren, sie glauben nicht, was hier gerade passiert. Der soeben eingewechselte und zuvor ausgebootete Daniel Buballa hat sich gerade bei einem Auer Konter auf den Boden gesetzt und in der Nase gebohrt! Und schon im folgenden Angriff rollte er den roten Teppich aus, den er unter seinem Trikot versteckt hatte und deutete dem Stürmer aus dem Erzgebirge an, dass dieser freie Fahrt hätte!“

Meine Fresse! Sorry. Weiter geht’s.
Oder auch nicht, weil Wirkungstreffer. Es dauert relativ lange, bis wir diesen abschütteln können und abgesehen von gefälligem Spiel im Mittelfeld (sowohl Becker als auch insbesondere Benatelli fungieren als Ballverteiler und machen dies sehr gut) entwickeln wir leider nichts nach vorne, zumindest nichts gefährliches. Erst in den letzten fünf Minuten vor der Pause ist der Rucksack abgelegt, Tashchy nimmt einen Ball im Strafraum fantastisch an und lupft ihn über Männel – und leider am Tor vorbei. Auch Finn Ole Becker kann aus zwölf Metern leider nicht verwandeln.

Die 2.Halbzeit

Auch in der zweiten Halbzeit braucht der FCSP etwas Anlauf. Aber dafür knallt er dann so richtig rein. Etwa ab Minute 60 erspielt sich der FCSP vor allem häufig direkt durch das Zentrum gut ein halbes Dutzend guter Chancen. Den Start machte Igor Matanovic, der freistehend am glänzenden Männel scheiterte (59.). Es folgten Tashchy (61.), Buballa (63.), wieder Matanovic (69.) und zu guter Letzt Kyereh, der den Ball an den Pfosten knallte (73.). Beide Matanovic-Chancen übrigens durch Becker sehr schön herausgespielt.

Und just als man dachte „Herrje, jetzt macht halt mal ein Tor draus!“, liegt bei zunehmend offenerer Stellung im Verbund mit dem dritten Auer Kontakt nach einem Ballverlust der Ball im Netz. Zwar meinte der Schiedsrichter-Assistent eine Abseitsstellung gesehen zu haben, aber es wurde direkt in der ersten Wiederholung klar, dass hier der VAR überstimmen wird. 0-2 oder „wie man aus einer guten Leistung das Minimale rausholt“.
Diese drei Ballkontakte in Serie waren übrigens das erste Mal seit der 65.Minute, dass Erzgebirge Aue zwei Pässe hintereinander an den Mitspieler brachte (Quelle: Whoscored.com). Das sagt viel über die Dominanz des FCSP aus, aber eben auch über die Effektivität.

Aber während sogar ich (Tim) vor dem Rechner sitzend einen Satz anfange mit „Wenn Du solche Spiele verlierst…“, werden Knoll, Dittgen und Makienok eingewechselt. Das macht sich sofort bezahlt: Nur drei Minuten nach dem zweiten Tor von Aue gleicht Dittgen nach einer Ecke aus (erstes Tor nach Ecke diese Saison – Gegentore bisher nach Ecke: 0). Beteiligt sind alle drei Spieler, die kurz zuvor eingewechselt wurden: Knoll flankt, Simon verlängert, Max drückt ihn über die Linie.

Und kurz vor Schluss ist es wieder ein Standard von Knoll, der den Ausgleich bringt. Erst trifft Lawrence das zweite Mal für den FCSP den Pfosten, aber endlich steht beim zweiten Ball auch mal jemand goldrichtig: Simon Makienok erzielt das 2-2. Durchatmen.

Zwar wird danach noch alles versucht, aber letztendlich bleibt es beim Unentschieden. Und auch wenn der FC St. Pauli hier sicher von einem moralischen Sieg sprechen darf, ganz am Ende wird es Erzgebirge Aue sein, die sich nach diesem Spiel als Sieger eines Punktes fühlen, den sie nie und nimmer verdient haben.
Der FC St. Pauli spielt richtig guten Fußball gegen ein Team, das dafür bekannt ist schönen Fußball zerstören zu können. Das hat Aue nicht geschafft. Aber sie haben trotz drückender Überlegenheit des FCSP (expected Goals 2.9 – 0.6!!!) einen Punkt am Millerntor geholt.

Trotzdem sind die Erkenntnisse aus dem Spiel positiv: Leart Paqarada überzeugte auf der linken Abwehrseite, das Zentrum mit Zalazar, Becker und Benatelli scheint sich zur Stammformation aufzuschwingen, Igor Matanovic ist eines der größten Sturmtalente, die je beim FCSP gespielt haben (wenn er denn weiter so spielt).
Mir persönlich noch wichtiger ist die Erkenntnis, dass Max Dittgen, wenn er frisch und unverbraucht in der zweiten Halbzeit ins Spiel kommt (wie auch gegen Osnabrück) wohl am stärksten ist. Gleiches gilt wohl für Simon Makienok, der im System „Brechstange“ ein benötigter Turm sein kann.

Das Fazit

„Zum Leben Zuwenig zum Sterben Zuviel“ heißt es oft. Und natürlich ist so eine Aussage am 11.Spieltag völliger Quatsch, zumal bei drei Punkten Rückstand auf den Nichtabstiegsplatz und einem Spiel beim abgeschlagenen Tabellenletzten vor der Brust.
Vor dem Spiel hätte sicher niemand einen Punkt akzeptiert, in der 78.Minute nach dem VAR-Entscheid hat aber wohl keine*r mehr auf diesen Punkt zu hoffen gewagt. Und während man von allen statistischen Werten her von zwei verlorenen Punkten sprechen muss, muss man vom Spielverlauf her damit natürlich leben.

Wir haben jetzt in zwölf Pflichtspielen zehn Mal zwei oder mehr Tore kassiert – das ist schlichtweg Wahnsinn. Außerdem haben wir die beiden fehlenden Spiele mit 0:1 verloren. Wir haben aber auch in den letzten zehn Minuten jetzt schon drei Mal einen Zwei-Tore-Rückstand aufgeholt (Bochum, Darmstadt, Aue). Es fehlt also weder an Moral noch an Kondition. Und wir haben sowohl Chancen aus dem Spiel heraus (die wir nur leider nicht verwandeln) als auch heute zwei Tore nach Standards erzielt.

Für uns ist das Glas also halbvoll – jetzt müssen wir aber in Würzburg und gegen Düsseldorf dies auch mal auf dem Punktekonto nachweisen, damit der Weihnachtsbaum nicht doch noch in Flammen steht.

And „scored at the eleventh hour“ is thus the „half-full glass“ – to frame today’s match. „Just one point for the penultimate of the table“ would be the „half-empty glass“ and we’d like to point out now why we chose the first option.

The line-up

Already in Tim’s pre-match report and in the article in which the goalie was challenged, the four substitutions of today’s starting line-up were already predicted, however, for the sake of completeness:

Svend Arvid Stanislaw Brodersen starts as the goalie and substituted Robin Himmelmann. He’s 23 years old, started to learn how to play football at the age of four at the FCSP, he then -in between – played for the ETV before he returned to the FCSP. How was is put brilliantly by someone? You really wish that it works out for him. So far, a 4:1-defeat in Cologne and a 2:1-defeat in Kiel were to put as results into his resume.

Furthermore, Leart Paqarada, Finn Ole Becker, Igor Matanovic and Boris Tashchy started compared to the Braunschweig line-up for Daniel Buballa, Kevin Lankford, Simon Makienok and Maximilian Dittgen. So for the wished-for „puppy attack“ by Tim, only the later substituted Lukas Daschner was missing.

The first half

A perfect half. Aggressiveness, courageous built-up play, ideas and vitality. A sure-bet chance for Philipp Ziereis via a header after two minutes only.
And then, Finn Ole Becker takes the ball, with his speed, he easily passes the first opponent, he then passes a catastrophic ball to the next opponent, loses his orientation on his way back and then Aue takes the lead by 1-0. The first ball towards the goal of Brodersen, and no chance to defeat the ball which goes flatly into the corner. 
Fuuuuuck! (This was somehow what left Becker’s mouth seconds after that, to see in a macro shot at least when you’re capable of lip-reading.)

An effective hit.
And it got even worse: Ziereis suddenly held his groin and had to be substituted shortly after. I (Maik) have to admit that I had to watch the match via sky today (for reasons: kale dinner at my mum’s) – and when Buballa was substituted for Ziereis the match commentator wondered “excitedly, how Buballa will respond to his previous removal on the pitch now“.
Holy cow… to bash commentators is as bad as to bash the referees, but to be honest: WHAT! THE FUCK! WERE THE! OPTIONS!?!?!
„Ladies and gentlemen, you’ll never believe what’s going on here. The just substituted and formerly removed Daniel Buballa did just sit down on the pitch and searched for a booger in his nose while Aue was attacking! And in the next attack, he unrolled the red carpet which he hid under his jersey and signalled to the forward of Aue that he can attack without any defence!“

For Fucks Sake! Sorry. Let’s move on.
Or rather not because it was an effective hit. It took rather long until we could get rid of the shock caused by the lead and besides the appealing play in the midfield (both Becker and particularly Benatelli acted as ball distributors and did this to perfection) we do not develop anything at the front at least anything to count. Only in the very last minute before half-time, the rucksack is dropped, Tashchy receives a ball in the box in a fantastic manner and lifts it over goalie Männel – but sadly also next to the goal. Also, Finn Ole Becker cannot score from 12 meters distance.

A mirror of the season so far. 
Play-wise, the lads made three steps to the fore compared to the Braunschweig match, result-wise it was the same as always.

The second half

Also in the second half, the FCSP needed a little time to start. But eventually, they did. Roughly from the 60th minute onwards, the FCSP elicited half a dozen good chances. The start was marked by Igor Matanovic, who failed to score due to a shining Männel (59th). Next were Tashchy (61st), Buballa (63rd), again Matanovic (69th) and last but not least Kyereh, who shot the ball against the post (73rd). Both chances of Matanovic were by the way elicited by Becker in a beautiful manner.

And when one started to think: „FFS just shoot a fucking goal!“, due to a very open defence and with the third contact of Aue, the ball hit the wrong net – again. However, although the assistance referee was claiming to have witnessed an offside position, the first replay instantly showed that the VAR would overrule this decision. 0-2 or „how to get the minimum out of good performance“.
These three ball contacts in a row were actually the first time that Aue managed to successfully finish two passes of their players since the 65th minute. (Source: Whoscored.com). This says a lot about the dominance of the FCSP but also about their effectivity.

And while even I, Tim, was sitting in front of my computer and already drafting sentences such as „If you lose such matches…“ Knoll, Dittgen and Makienok were substituted. And this paid off instantly: Just three minutes after Aue shot their second goal,  Dittgen scored after a corner (actually the first goal after a corner ball during this season while we did not concede any goal after a corner) And all three players who were just substituted were involved in this goal: Knoll centred, Simon dropped and Max pushed the ball over the line.

And shortly before the match was over, it is again a set-piece which delivers the equalizer. First, Lawrence hits the post for the second time for the FCSP but eventually, someone is positioned at the right spot for the second ball: Simon Makienok scores the 2-2. Breathe deeply.

Although they tried a few more things after that, eventually the draw was the final result. And even if the FC St. Pauli is allowed to call themselves the moral winner of this match, eventually it will be Aue who will feel as if they are the true winners of this one point because actually, they didn’t deserve a point at all.
The FC St. Pauli shows really good football against a team which is known to be capable of destroying beautiful football. But Aue did not manage to do it this time. But they manage to score a point at the Millerntor, although the FCSP was highly dominant  (expected Goals 2.9 – 0.6!!!).

Nevertheless, the conclusions from this match are very positive: Leart Paqarada convinced as a left wing-back, the centre with  Zalazar, Becker and Benatelli appears to become the standard formation, Igor Matanovic is one of the biggest forward talents who ever played for the FCSP (if he can manage to play on like this).
And to me personally, it’s even more important to know that Max Dittgen might play the strongest when he is fresh and relaxed substituted in the second half (which was already true against Osnabrück). The same is true for Simon Makienok, who can be a tower in the system „Crowbar“.

The verdict

„Too less to live, too much to die“ is frequently heard. And of course, such a statement is absolute rubbish after the 11th matchday of the season, especially with only three points distance to the non-relegation spot and a match at the ultimate of the table ahead.
Before the match, surely no one would have accepted one point only but in the 78th minute and after the VAR decision, also no one would have dared to hope for this point. And with regards to statistical data only, one has to speak about two lost points, we have to live with it due to the course of the match.

In the twelve matches of the season so far, we have conceded two or more goals per match, that’s simply crazy. Furthermore, we have lost the two other matches by 0-1. Otherwise, we also equalised being two goals behind within the last ten minutes for three times already (Bochum, Darmstadt, Aue). So there’s neither a lack of morale nor of fitness. And we also have chances out of the game (which we somehow don’t turn into goals) but also scored twice today after set-pieces.

So for us, the glass is half full – we only have to secure the points in Würzburg and Düsseldorf now to prevent the Christmas tree from burning down.
