Morgen steht für den FC St. Pauli das DFB-Pokal-Achtelfinale gegen Borussia Dortmund an. Der Gast aus Dortmund, amtierender Pokalsieger, geht als klarer Favorit in dieses Spiel. Oder etwa nicht? Nun, es gibt tonnenweise Gründe, warum nur der FCSP dieses Spiel gewinnen kann. Wir präsentieren fünf davon.

Ihr habt erhebliche Zweifel daran, dass der FC St. Pauli morgen das Pokalspiel gegen Borussia Dortmund gewinnt? Tief durchatmen und entspannen. Schaut euch einfach die folgenden fünf Gründe an, warum der FC St. Pauli dieses Spiel schlicht nicht verlieren kann:

1. Niederlagen im Achtelfinale

Borussia Dortmund und das Pokal-Achtelfinale – das ist definitiv keine Liebesgeschichte. Mag ja sein, dass es sich bei diesem Klub um den amtierenden Pokalsieger handelt, aber habt ihr mal geschaut, was in den drei Jahren zuvor passiert ist? Richtig: Sie sind vorher ausgeschieden. Im Achtelfinale! Dreimal in Folge! Pokale gewinnen können sie vielleicht, Achtelfinale aber nicht.
Ohnehin spricht die Quote hier ganz klar für den FC St. Pauli. Die sind nämlich insgesamt erst dreimal im Achtelfinale ausgeschieden. Zuletzt in der Saison 86/87 (schonmal sorry an jene, die jetzt schauen gegen wen und wie hoch das damals war). Der FCSP ist also seit 35 Jahren nicht mehr im Achtelfinale des DFB-Pokals ausgeschieden. Borussia Dortmund im gleichen Zeitraum ganze zehn Mal. Verdammt, wenn das keine aussagekräftige Statistik ist, dann weiß ich auch nicht! Gut, der BVB hat in dieser Zeit vielleicht auch viermal den Pokal gewonnen, aber diese Quote, Diggah, sie spricht klar für St. Pauli!

2. Pokal im Januar

Habt ihr schonmal ein DFB-Pokalspiel mit dem FC St. Pauli im Januar verloren? Nein? Ich auch nicht. Wie auch? Es ist unmöglich. Denn der FC St. Pauli hat noch nie im Januar ein Pokalspiel verloren. Der erste Monat des Jahres, er kennt den FC St. Pauli nur als Gewinner! Zuletzt durfte der Januar eine exzellente Performance des FC St. Pauli am 25.01.2006 genießen. „Unbespielbar“ jammerten die einen, während auf der anderen Seite ein gewisser Timo Schultz für den 3:1-Endstand gegen Werder Bremen sorgte.
Und Borussia Dortmund? Hat auch schonmal im Januar Pokalspiele gewonnen. Aber eine weiße Weste, wie die des FC St. Pauli, sie ist nur ein feuchter schwarz-gelber Traum. Denn die eigene Januar-Weste trägt dunkle Schatten der Vergangenheit mit sich. Zum Beispiel 2009, als Werder Bremen durch die Tore von Hugo Almeida und Claudio Pizarro für das Ausscheiden der Dortmunder sorgte. Was? Genau die Bremer, die wir im Januar geschlagen haben?! Der Vergleich „Wir haben gegen die gewonnen und die haben gegen die verloren! Boah sind die schlecht!„, er ist zum Greifen nahe! Der Januar kennt Borussia Dortmund also als Verlierer – und er wird sich daran morgen erinnern. Was? In welcher Runde Werder damals den BVB rauswarf? Achtelfinale. Selbstredend.

3. Kyereh fehlt? Eine Machtdemonstration!

579,90 Mio € beträgt der Markwert des BVB-Kaders. 25,20 Mio € Euro beträgt der Marktwert des FCSP-Kaders. Aber das sind nur Zahlen, nur billige Momentaufnahmen auf einem viel zu überhitzten Transfermarkt. Viel wichtiger ist, dass Spieler über längere Zeit gute Leistungen zeigen. Daher ist ein wesentlich verlässlicherer Indikator für die Abschätzung der Stärke eines Teams die Berufung zu den Nationalmannschaften. Denn nur wer über einen längeren Zeitraum performed wird auch zu großen Turnieren eingeladen. Und da Fußball nunmal ein Teamsport ist, können auch nur von richtig starken Teams Spieler in Nationalmannschaften berufen werden. Der vom MillernTon weltexklusiv präsentierte NTSI (National-Team-Stärke-Indikator) setzt hier ein Ausrufezeichen: Denn wie viele Nationalspieler muss Borussia Dortmund aktuell für den Afrika-Cup abstellen? Richtig, erbärmliche Null. Der NTSI des FC St. Pauli liegt hier bei Eins – ein Ausdruck purer Überlegenheit, eine Machtdemonstration. Ja, lohnt es sich überhaupt einzuschalten oder wird das so eine langweilige Bayern vs. Regionalverein Erstrunden-Nummer, bei der die Fernsehanstalten mit krudesten Statistiken überhaupt so etwas wie Spannung aufzubauen versuchen? Klar ist: Der NTSI hat noch nie daneben gelegen. Es ist ein deutliches Zeichen der Überlegenheit. Das Spiel, nein, die Schlachtung, bekommt auf jeden Fall das FSK18-Label, soviel ist sicher. Aus Dortmunder Sicht würde ich das Viertelfinal-Ticket lieber per Post ans Millerntor schicken, anstatt mir dieses Auswärtsspiel überhaupt anzutun.

4. Schultz ungeschlagen!

Unglaublich, aber wahr: Timo Schultz hat noch nie(!), wirklich noch kein einziges Mal ein Pokalspiel als Trainer des FC St. Pauli am Millerntor verloren. Eine Wahnsinns-Bilanz! Das ist ein Fakt, an dem niemand vorbeikommen kann, der es ernst meint. Natürlich kann BVB-Trainer Marco Rose da nicht mithalten. Er hat noch nie am Millerntor ein Pokalspiel als Trainer gewonnen. Eieiei, wenn Susi und Aki diese Statistik kennen würden… Ein Glück hat Timo Schultz kürzlich seinen Vertrag verlängert, sodass ich zur Melodie von „Heja BVB“ mit einem nasalen Furzton rausposaune: Don’t cry, BVB!

5. Wir ham Guido, was habt ihr?

Mag sein, dass Erling Haaland ganz gut kicken kann. Aber um mal nen Heiermann ins Phrasenschein zu droppen: Der Pokal hat seine eigenen Gesetze. Hier kommt es nicht darauf an, wie toll deine Torquote in der Liga ist. Hier ist jedes Spiel einzigartig. Pokal musst Du fühlen, riechen und schmecken können. Einer, der das Wesen von Pokalspielen so gut kennt, wie sonst fast niemand auf dem Platz: Guido Burgstaller. Der hat nämlich in drei verschiedenen nationalen Pokalwettbewerben für sechs verschiedene Teams getroffen (take this, Erling!). Ob gegen den SV Heiligenkreutz, Coventry City, Fortuna Düsseldorf (Hell yeah, Guido!) oder Drochtersen/Assel: Burgstaller schmeckt, riecht und fühlt Pokal. Mit einer Hand ist er schon dran an dem Ding, mit einem Bein schon in Berlin! Müßig zu erwähnen, dass er noch nie ein Pokal-Achtelfinale mit dem FC St. Pauli im Januar am Millerntor verloren hat, oder? ODER?

Der siegreiche Januar, das aus Dortmunder Sicht gefährliche Achtelfinale, der ungeschlagene Timo Schultz, Pokal-Profi Guido Burgstaller oder sogar der abwesende Kofi Kyereh – Ihr seht: Alles andere als ein deutlicher Sieg und der ungefährdete Einzug ins Pokal-Viertelfinale des FC St. Pauli, wäre eine echte Überraschung.

FC St. Pauli will face Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Cup Round of 16 tomorrow. The guests from Dortmund, the reigning cup winners, are the clear favourites for this match. Or are they? Well, there are tons of reasons why only FCSP can win this game. We present five of them.

Do you have serious doubts that FC St. Pauli will win tomorrow’s cup match against Borussia Dortmund? Take a deep breath and relax. Just take a look at the following five reasons why FC St. Pauli simply cannot lose this match:

1. Defeats in the round of 16

Borussia Dortmund and the cup round of 16 – that is definitely not a love story. It may well be that this club is the reigning cup winner, but have you ever looked at what happened in the three years before? That’s right: they were eliminated before. In the round of 16! Three times in a row! They might be able to win cups, but not the last 16.

Anyway, the odds are clearly in favour of FC St. Pauli. They have only been eliminated in the Round of 16 three times. The last time was in the 86/87 season (sorry to those who are now looking at who and how high that was). FCSP has therefore not been eliminated in the last 16 of the DFB Cup for 35 years. Borussia Dortmund in the same period a whole ten times. Damn, if that’s not a meaningful statistic, I don’t know what is! Well, BVB may have won the cup four times in that time, but these odds, Diggah, clearly speak for St. Pauli!

2. Cup in January

Have you ever lost a DFB Cup match with FC St. Pauli in January? No? Neither have I. How could you? It’s impossible. Because FC St. Pauli has never lost a cup match in January. The first month of the year, it knows FC St. Pauli only as winners! The last time January was allowed to enjoy an excellent performance by FC St. Pauli was on 25.01.2006. „Unplayable“ lamented some, while on the other side a certain Timo Schultz was responsible for the 3:1 final score against Werder Bremen.
And Borussia Dortmund? Has also won cup games in January. But a clean slate, like that of FC St. Pauli, is only a wet black-yellow dream. Because their own January waistcoat carries with it dark shadows of the past. For example, in 2009, Werder Bremen’s goals by Hugo Almeida and Claudio Pizarro caused Dortmund’s elimination. What? The very Bremen we beat in January?! The comparison „We won against them and they lost against them! Wow, they’re bad!“ is within reach! So January knows Borussia Dortmund as losers – and it will remember that tomorrow. What? In which round did Werder throw BVB out back then? Round of 16. Of course.

3. Kyereh is missing? A demonstration of power!

579.90 million is the market value of the BVB squad. 25.20 million euros is the market value of the FCSP squad. But these are just numbers, just cheap snapshots in a far too overheated transfer market. It is much more important that players perform well over a longer period. Therefore, a much more reliable indicator for estimating the strength of a team is the call-up to the national teams. Only those who perform well over a longer period are invited to major tournaments. And since football is a team sport, only really strong teams can be called up to the national teams. 4. Schultz unbeaten!

Unbelievable, but true: Timo Schultz has never(!), really never, lost a single cup match as coach of FC St. Pauli at the Millerntor. An amazing record! That is a fact that no one serious can get past. Of course, BVB coach Marco Rose can’t keep up with that. He has never won a cup match at the Millerntor as a coach. Eieiei, if Susi and Aki knew this statistic… Fortunately, Timo Schultz recently extended his contract, so I blurt out in a nasal fart tone to the tune of „Heja BVB“: Don’t cry, BVB!

5. We have Guido, what have you got?

It may be that Erling Haaland can kick quite well. But to drop a fiver into the phrasebook: The cup has its own laws. It doesn’t matter how good your goal-scoring record is in the division. Every game is unique. You have to be able to feel, smell and taste the cup. One person who knows the essence of cup games better than almost anyone else on the pitch: Guido Burgstaller. He has scored for six different teams in three different national cup competitions (take this, Erling!). Whether against SV Heiligenkreutz, Coventry City, Fortuna Düsseldorf (Hell yeah, Guido!) or Drochtersen/Assel: Burgstaller tastes, smells and feels the cup. He’s already got one hand on the thing, one foot in Berlin! Needless to say, he has never lost a Cup Round of 16-match with FC St. Pauli at the Millerntor in January, has he? OR?

The victorious January, the dangerous round of 16 from Dortmund’s point of view, the unbeaten Timo Schultz, cup pro-Guido Burgstaller or even the absent Kofi Kyereh – you see: Anything else than a clear victory and the unchallenged entry into the cup quarter-finals of FC St. Pauli would be a real surprise.
